Need to get to Padova on Sunday 9th July by train or bus from Treviso Airport, what can people recommend?
1. Taxi or bus 6 from the airport to Treviso railway station. Bus timetables here:
'Feriale' is Monday to Saturday, 'Festivo' is Sunday and public holidays. 'Stazione FS' is Treviso Centrale railway station.
2. Train from Treviso to Padua. Train times, details and fares in English on the official Italian railway website:
There are a few direct (i.e. no change) departures but most involve a change of train (very easy indeed). Journey time is from 44 minutes.
Unless you take one of the very few departures which involve the fastest Freccia trains there is no point in buying tickets in advance online.
Regionale and Regionale Veloce trains do not have the discount online fares which are *sometimes* available for Freccia trains. They allow standing (Freccia trains do not) and do not get so full that you cannot board. So just buy your Regionale ticket from the ticket machines at the station using cash or card (English language options available).
Remember to validate (date-stamp) a Regionale ticket before you board using the green-and-white machines on platforms and at platform entrances...there are on-the-spot fines for non-validation and staff do check!
3. An alternative:
Take either the ATVO bus or the Terravision bus from Treviso airport and get off at Mestre:
Once you are in Mestre, just take the train to Padova. Journey time is around 30 mins by Regionale train. The airport buses drop off right next to Mestre railway station.
