Get a credit card with no currency exchange fee and use it in the currency of the country(do not let them charge you in dollars).

You can withdraw money. There are ATMS everywhere. However, as traveling to any country you have a  foreign withdraw fee, and a transaction fee.

If you are looking for a good city guide to Rome I have written one here. http://www.abackpackerstale.com/europe-travel-guides/italy-travel-tips/rome

When you do need cash, be sure to bring along an ATM card.
