I'll be road tripping with my Irish inlaws in August (yay!!!) and want to contribute suggestions of things to do and see that might be new to them, too. Storytelling nights, flea markets, art festivals, local events, great food and lodging, all suggestions welcome. Thank you so much!
Howth, Gladough, Kinsale, Dingle, Galway :)
These are all really lovely places, Laurie. August is also a great time to come here. There are festivals all through the month. Kilkenny Arts festival runs from Aug 7th - 16th and is always fun with lots to see. August is also craft month in Cork and Kinsale is at its loveliest in sunshine (hopefully you will see some sun!!) There will be plenty of impromptu traditional music sessions in many pubs all over the country and celebrations of everything, especially good weather!
In Kinsale try to book lunch in Fishy Fishy Café
If you like walking the Spinc walk in Glendalough is dramatic and beautiful with amazing views of the lough. It is not very strenuous and the whole walk takes about 3 hours so bring a picnic and a camera.
In Galway City visit the Latin Quarter Wine Bar and Bistro for good food and nice wine. Take a drive to Connemara - our favourite place to stay is Rosleague Manor House Hotel (the staff, food and rooms are lovely)
You will find great accommodation in Ireland in Ireland's Blue Book
Have a great holiday.
