Sathish from Chennai asked

Places to visit for a weekend in Ireland?

Headed on my third outing to Ireland. Would like to know places around I can visit as I have a weekend this time! My visa states I can visit Britain too from Ireland, so guessing Giant's causeway and mountains of moher would be worth a visit too??

Last time took a long train ride along countryside, forgot the places though. Hoath I guess was one, and one at the other corner too.

Would appreciate tips on bus / train routes (nos). I'd reside in Blanchardstown near Dunnes.

Hi Sathish,

You probably took the coast train between Howth and Greystones which is a lovely scenic ride. For a weekend I suggest you take the train to Kilkenny or CorkKilkenny

Kilkenny is about a 2 hour train ride and Cork is just over 3 hours. Both cities are worth exploring. In Kilkenny you can visit Kilkenny  castle Butler House and the Kilkenny workshops for pottery and crafts. In Cork  visit Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral Triskel Arts Centre and Cork English Market. Maybe take a bus to Kinsale for lunch in Fishy Fishy Café If you decide to rent a car you could visit Giants Causewayand Carlingford Lough heading North from Dublin. Have a great trip.
