Forrest Fires in September in Indonesia?

I am looking at taking an extended trip in September/October. I had thought of Indonesia, for tourism and also for some surfing.

Is this the time period for the typically palm cutting/fires? If so I may need to find an alternate location.

Thanks!

If Your plan is to do surfing or diving. You can go to Bali and Lomok - LomokIndonesia. palm cutting/fires are located in Borneo CentralSandal Indo Pacific, Pt. It doesn't really affect Bali and Lombok since those two islands are far away from Bali and Lombok ;-)

Yes. It is "burning season" in western sumatra, sometimes also java and Malay. It can be a pain in the neck because smoke can be really bad. Depending on precipation this can go on for weeks. As winds generally move westwards, try to go as far east as possible. I have been lucky in Bali a few times. Check Singapore National Environmental Agency website for current status.
