Hello,

I am actually in Incredible India now for my third visit. It is an amazing place to experience and everyday is an adventure. It is an absolutely huge country with many different regions with their own climate, so advising based on weather is a bit difficult without knowing where you would like to visit.

However, most people would agree that you should avoid the monsoon season which lasts from July-September. Besides the rain most of the country is unimaginably hot and humid. If you do visit during this time, head for the Himalayan regions such as Jammu & Kashmir or Darjeeling.

Another factor to consider are the many great festivals in India. Just yesterday was Holi, the festival of colours, and is popular for locals and tourists alike. Nearly all of the holidays change dates every year since they are on a lunar based calendar. You may want to plan your trip around one of these holidays as they can really enhance your overall experience. If you do come on a popular holiday, remember to book your hotels and train/plane tickets in advance!

Peak tourist season is October-March. Each time I have visited has been somewhere between December and March. I find the weather pretty decent with (usually) only sparse rain. I would like to make a trip sometime around May-June though to see the Himalayas in spring time.

I hope this was enough to get started. Feel free to contact me at The Travelers Toast if you want more personalized suggestions.

Happy travels!

Best time is from August to March. It is very hot now. Summer days go up to 45 degree Celsius. Monsoon hits in the month of July and it stays till the mid of August. It also depends on which part of India you want to travel as it is a huge country with diversity in weather.

November through March is typically the best time to visit. Try and visit during a fair or festival if possible, they are such a special experience while traveling India

Also Jan will be colder in North India

If you are on a low budget then you can start in July till September in India. After that from October to March weather will be good but it will be expensive. You can contact www.indijourneys.com for a tour program if you'd like.

If you can plan it around the biggest festival in India, which is Diwali (falls around September/October), that would be my vote. A similar atmosphere to Christmas in the US, it is festive, people are much more relaxed and its an ideal chance to get to know some of the customs (which imho make India what it is). Each region, i.e North/South has its own way of celebrating these festivals as well.
My must-visit list for India includes JaipurMumbai (My family is from here), Kerala.
Hope this helps.
