Best places to visit in North India?

I will be traveling in India starting Sept. I'd love to know any favorite areas or cities that are "must see" for my itinerary. I'm looking for something unique to the region. Thanks for your help!

Take the train from Kalkato Shimla The India Mountain Railways are on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

The train starts at sea level and climbs to about 6800 ft passing through 107 (mostly very short) tunnels and countless bridges with spectacular views of the villages and Himalayas along the way.  I'm not sure which train we took (there are several models with different features), but we had unreserved seating. The people on our car were constantly moving around so everybody could get great pictures from both sides of the car.

We arrived in Shimla just in time for this gorgeous sunset!

Hi Nono,

North India is very spectacular indeed. Here are a few places I'd recommend adding to your list:

Leh and Ladākh Range - Home to the Himalayas. (September is the beginning of winters here and road access begins to shut down due to snow. You can fly in to Leh directly via New Delhi or Srinagar. I have blogged about my trip to Leh and Ladakh here -

2. Harmandir Sahib (also known as the Golden Temple) in Amritsar

3. From Amritsar take a bus to Dalhousie or Dharamsala, McLeod Ganj in Himachal Pradesh. Himachal is also home to to Parvati Valley - You should explore the entire state of Himachal Pradesh - Manali, Spiti River, Shimla, etc - they are all great places for treks.

You will need about 3 weeks for the above itinerary. Hope this helps. Good luck for your trip.

There are Many places in north IndiaLike

Jaipur is the capital of India’s Rajasthan state. It evokes the royal family that once ruled the region and that, in 1727, founded what is now called the Old City, or “Pink City” for its trademark building color. At the center of its stately street grid (notable in India) stands the opulent, colonnaded City Palace complex. With gardens, courtyards and museums, part of it is still a royal residence

In jaipur You can visit Hawa Mahal NagpurAmber Fort an more places in Rajasthan

The majestic snow clad mountains, stunningly rich greenery and the beautiful lakes in the land of Shimla greet you to

Well it depends upon the time and types of places which you want to explore. For example if you are interested in luxury or royal hospitality the visit Rajasthan.

If you are in India for a shorter period the go for Golden Triangle tour which includes Jaipur, Delhi and Agra (city of Taj Mahal). Here you can also include cities like Mathura, Vrindavan, Fatehpur Sikri, Ranthambore National Park, Ajmer and Pushkar.

So if you could be more specific with your question then I can suggest a better option.
