Three day in the sawtooth with children, what are great day hikes?

Looking for fun adventures in the sawtooth. We have three days in August before Montana. Any suggestions for day hikes? Towns? Camping? Any Secrets will help? Thanks... .and we don't like crowds :-)

Hi Eric, kinda depends on age of kids and how remote they can go? Redfish Lake is a great setting, lodge, paddle boat lake looking right at Heyburn Mountain and some of the best Sawtooth views.  Kids will love it, but there will be people.  Take a ferry to end of lake for some nice, easy hikes up to alpine lakes.  For a more remote Idaho hiking experience, check out the White Cloud mountains, the range just east of the Sawtooths along SR 75.  Access 4th of July trailhead, and hike up to Ants Basin to get a great view of the range.   Another hike in the White Clouds that ends in great views is Horton Peak that has an old fire lookout on top and incredible views, this one is an easy 3,000 ft vertical but still depends on the kids.  The popular trails in the Sawtooths themselves will be have a lot of people by Idaho standards, but will still uncrowded by California or Colorado standards.

Stanley, Idaho is an amazing small town with great views of the Sawtooth Mountains and plenty of camping/hiking opportunities.  I would recommend camping or visiting Redfish Lake Lodge.  There is a beautiful lake and hiking trails; Fishhook Creek trail or Redfish Lake Inlet trail would be easy for kids.   For something less crowded, try Pettit Lake.  It has some reserved campsites as well as primitive camping nearby.  There are some great hikes from the lake including: Alice Lake Trail.   A third camping option would be Alturas Lake.   Enjoy your trip.
