Transportation from Hue to Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet?

Hi there,

We'll be travelling to Vietnam in September and would like some advice for transport. We have to trips by bus scheduled in our planning and would like to know how we can book and which company we should use.

  1. Transport from Hue to Hoi An in afternoon
  2. Transport from Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet (or Mui Ne) and back a few days after

What are your suggestions/experiences?

Hi Tom,

For the trip from Hue to Hoi An in the afternoon, as I know Sinh cafe has afternoon bus will arrive Hoi An around 5.30 pm. But if you want to enjoy the view of Lang Co bay, Hai Van pass, you should choose a Private car (around 65 usd/ 4 seat-car).

Hi Tom-We traveled via car from Hue to Hoi An.  I can't recommend a bus company to book, but we arranged the transport through our hotel in Hue (although, our hotel in Hoi An could have arranged the car too).  It will take about 4 hours in the car, and be prepared!  It is certainly a ride to remember!!

If you plan to travel to Vietnam, I recommend you should spend couple days in Ho Chi Minh City. There are many interesting places that you can experience in Saigon. For example enjoy a sunset cruise on Saigon River, spend haft day in Cu Chi Tunnels or visit Mekong Delta. You can go there by bus but it will be crowded and exhausted because of traffic jam. Thus you should try travel there by speedboat. There are many companies offer this types of services, among them I think Les Rives is the best company. You can view their website:  https://lesrivesexperience.com

From Hue to Hoi An--can be done many ways!

. Car--most expensive ---$60USD( 4 seater modern car, A/C!)

Can stop , take photos , stop at Lang Co Beach on way ---beautiful!---you are your own master! Can be booked at any hotel or the dozens of booking offices in Hue---Over Hi Van Pass( great trip)---or through new tunnel---Time ---4-5 hours over Pass ---less through tunnel!

. Bus ---booked at Mandarin Café---$5-$10USD--Cafe is at 3 Hung Vuong street( main Street)---Mr Cu the owner ---has been booking travellers since time began!

. Train ( A/C and soft seat ---upmarket) ---Through Hi Van ---tunnels and along beach( great trip again)---Cost $5USD---2-3 hours---book at same place!---go to "www.seat61.com" for all train schedules , costs throughout VN---train stops at Danang ---Hoi An has no station ---taxi varies 150,000VND---250,000VND---depending on numbers ---allow 30 minutes Danang Station to Hoi An

P.S ---this area is very easy to travel ---no forward bookings!

From Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet, you should get a car, It's   abit faster and its easier that the driver can drop you at the resort.
