I was wanting to know the top places to eat In or around Houston or the gulf coast region bay city is as far south as I can stand to go. Price plate under $30 can't drink so I'm not looking for places revolving around a bar
Chuy's is a classic tex-mex place. I'd recommend you go to the original Houston location at Westheimer and Kirby. Chuy's is cheap. Great margaritas (try the Texas Martini).
Uchi is an amazing experience. Not cheap, but not too expensive either. As a vegetarian, a big meal at Uchi including dessert usually runs us $50-60 per head. I like going and telling our waiter/waitress to take care of us and they pick the dishes.
Hugo's is another great restaurant. They serve what is know as "interior Mexican" food-- so not tex-mex. Very good stuff. I'm vegetarian, but I've been with friends who have had lots of exotic dishes like grasshoppers (and there's no mistaking that they are grasshoppers when they bring the dish out!)
