5 day Road trip from NYC to Houston w/4yo

Hi everyone:

My husband and I are planning a 5 day road trip with our 4yo son from NYC to Houston in late May. Would you please suggest routes (not boring if possible), activities or places to visit along the route and best cities to spend the night.

Since its gonna be a lot of driving, a super long trip for a 4 year old, we want all the activities to be fun for our son.

Thank you very much.

You could stop at the Camden Adventure Aquarium. It's beautiful and would be great way to break up the trip early on. Especially if the little one gets restless quickly.

When we were traveling across the country with a 4yo and a 6yo, we would start early, have a picnic lunch and stop early for the night at a hotel with a pool.

A five day trip might work out like this

New York City to Hershey's Chocolate World  Ideally I would do the first day the longest, but you can get to Hershey in less than 3 hours and will have time to play.  Since the next destination is a long way, you might not want to spend the night in Hershey, but go along the road a little farther on to spend the night.

Day 2:  Hershey to Pigeon Forge (Dollywood).  This is an 8 hour trip inf you stay in Hershey

Day 3: Spend time in Dollywood and then drive to Birmingham (Alabama) (4.5 hours)

Day 4: Go to the zoo in Birmingham, and then get on the road to New Orleans (5 hours)  Visit places like the Louisiana Children's Museum or the Childrens World Indoor Playground

Day 5 - Houston (5 hours)

Hi Mafer, that's a tall order!  Considering it takes about 25 hours and 47 minutes (non-stop) to drive from New York City to Houston. But as quoted by Lou Holtz: Virtually nothing is impossible in this world if you just put your mind to it and maintain a positive attitude.

Here's an ideal itinerary:

Day 1 Start early, drive nearly 16 hours (not including time spent at pit stops) to Birmingham (Alabama). Stay a night in Birmingham.

Day 2 Enjoy Birmingham. Kid-friendly things to do: Vulcan Park and Museum, Birmingham Zoo and Railroad Park, Birmingham Al. Leave by 1 p.m. for Houston. Estimated driving time:

Estimated driving time: 10 hours and 18 minutes.

Day 3 Enjoy Houston

Day 4 Enjoy Houston. Leave for New York City. Stop for a night at one of the hotels along the highway.

Note: I would suggest a stop in Chattanooga, TN (halfway point between Houston and NYC).  Estimated driving time: 12 hours 31 minutes. Also, take a look at Trippy's Houston to New York City road trip planner.

Day 5 Arrive in New York City.

Have a safe trip!
