Hi all

Can anyone recommend a good authentic luau in Honolulu? We are going for our honeymoon, not sure if its best to do this in Honolulu or when we get to maui?

Paradise Cove Luauhas the biggest. And most extensive luau on O'ahu. You have to be bussed. It's on the western coast next door to the Aulani, A Disney Resort & SpaDisney Aulani resort on a beautiful stretch of land. If you want something within walking distance the Hale Koa has a very nice one. But you need a retired military or working military or DOD civilian help in getting in but sometimes they allow civies to come in. The food is great but the show is much smaller than paradise cove. Paradise Cove is on the web. Search for Paradise Cove Oahu.

  1. Paradise Cove Luau (restaurant)
  2. O'ahu (attraction)
  3. Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa (hotel)

It all depends on when you are here. If the stars align and you happen to be here at the right time nothing beats a church luau, short of being invited to a wedding or baby’s first birthday it doesn’t get any more authenthic. The biggest two are put on by Liliuokalani Protestant Church in Haleiwa  and Kaumakapili Church in Kalihi - Palama.

  2. Haleiwa (city)
  3. Kaumakapili Church (attraction)
  4. Kalihi - Palama (attraction)

Polynesian Cultural Center! Located on the north shore of O'ahu. Google it. You'll see how amazing it is.

Perhaps there such a thing as an authentic luau, but I was unable to find one. We went to one at the Royal Hawaiian Center Royal Hawaiian last year and the food was quite excellent but there was nothing about it that seemed authentic to me (a haole from the mainland, so what do I really know?). What I learned doing research before we gave up and decided to go to that one is that perhaps all of them are extremely touristy...
