jurriaan from Amsterdam asked

interesting off the beaten track neighborhood in hong kong

Hello everyone! Any expert brains on Hongkong I might pick?

I'm looking for an interesting neighborhood in Hongkong that's a bit off the beaten track - which in this case just means it's not too blindingly obvious to foreign travelers.

I'm researching places (bars, restaurants, galleries, coffee places, museums and the like) within an area that's more or less 1 square kilometer. Would be great if there's a story to tell about the neighborhood in general.

Any ideas?

I'm a journalist, writing for mainstream media in the Netherlands. Of course I'm not expecting people here to do my job! I know Hong Kong fairly well from previous trips, but unfortunately this time I will have to do all my research online. If you could point me in the right direction, that would be enough to get me on track!

How about Tai Hang? (It's near Tin Hau MTR), old neighbourhood, with some hip restaurants, coffee shops but some very local restaurants too. And you probably know Tai Ping Shan street already? I love Cafe 8 which is on top of the Maritime Museum.
