Hawaii, O'ahu, Maui

What is the better island to visit with kids? Oahu or Maui?

I am traveling to Hawaii in late June with my husband and 2 kids (ages 9 and 6). We plan to visit the Big Island for 5 nights, but can't decide between Oahu or Maui for the other 4 nights. We like to be on the go. The kids are not strong swimmers, but do want to try snorkeling and surfing lessons. Any advice on which island makes the most sense for us?

Maui is the best choice as others have said.  Some of the places to check or go would be the atlantis submarine 48 seater with ac and upclose with the sea life at 100 feet deep if they are up for that.  Then you have Maui Ocean Center really nice place to check out the Hawaiian  sea life and spend and afternoon.  In the evening you can't go wrong with a old fashioned Hawaiian luau in Lahaina a favorite place to visit shop, explore and have fun.  Ulanlena a production about the Hawaiian culture with singing and dancing and fast pace at times, at the Maui Theatre. The Maui Golf & Sports Park is fun for the kids and adults.  They have putt putt and bumper boats, and rock climbing even from 5 years old and up.  Beaches to check out as well.  Charley Young Beach is one of my favorites, one of the best in Kihei.  Parking is limited get there early 7am or so.  Great place for watching sunsets as well.  Here are some other's

Definitely agree with the other posters here. I would say that the age of the kids matter a little (older kids might want to be in Honolulu/ O'ahu since it will be more familiar), but unless your kids are big wave surfers, the tie goes to Maui. More activities for the kids, more things to see, and it feels more like a vacation.

Definitely Maui if I were in your shoes.  Waikiki is very busy compared to the touristy locations in Maui.  You'll find a lot more peace and quiet in Maui.  If you're looking for nice dining and quiet alone time on a beautiful island, Maui's a better fit.  If you're looking for nightlife, Oahu would be the right choice.

When we went two years ago we went to Maui and The Big Island. From what I heard from others O'ahu is more big city party island. Maui is more relaxed lots of resorts and beautiful beaches. Also lots of pretty towns to visit. I hope this helps.
