My best suggestion to find a best local restaurant if you really want to taste the real local food is : finding a local restaurant on the street where you can find lot of local people even seating outside on the street with the tiny plastic chair.
My recommendation for food lover who wants to try not only the local cuisine, but also stick with local atmosphere, try 1946 Hàng Bông( they have 3 address in downtown), with various menu not only from the North (Hanoi) but also from Middle, South of Vietnam.
But you really should give a try to street foods, which is often unnamed online. For other source, lozi.vn is popular searching tool for locals also.
