Hamburg

The SOHO of Hamburg?

Myself and a group of friends are travelling to Hamburg mid September. We are looking for the cooler areas of Hamburg, great little bars/pubs and a little nicer clientele than the Reeperbarn crew, whilst not being too stuffy to turn their noses up at a group of lads having a laugh. Anyone got a match? The equivalent of Soho in London springs to mind...

Hey Davin, I'm sure you're going to love Hamburg. A nice area to go to if you wanna avoid Reeperbahn is Schanzenviertel. The area isn't really classy but there are lots of great bars and clubs and it's a little less touristic than reeperbahn. On weekends however it's almost just as crowded. Start with a basic dinner at Frank und Frei or a little fancier at Die Bullerei and then turn right into Schanzenstraße. From there just pick whatever looks good to you guys. Make sure not to miss the Zoë 2 / Sofabar in the end. Have fun.

I asked my friend who is living in Hamburg.

she recommends Sternschanze as a Soho style place rather than St. Pauli

Dollhouse at Reeperbarn is really popular Dollhouse http://www.dollhouse.de/

I didn't experience bars and nightclubs, however my daily Hamburgjourney may help you Davin...here http://www.mapkini.com/2014/04/hamburg.html

I would recommend the Schanzenviertel

It has a bit of an alternative touch, so young people like to hang out in the bars and clubs there quite much. Another nicer street very close to Reeperbahn is Hamburger Berg, you might enjoy it, too.

Hi, this question is pretty easy to answer. "Schanzenviertel" is, in my opinion, the SOHO of Hamburg.  http://www.hamburg.de/schanzenviertel/

St. Pauli(not Reeperbahn, but the area between Reeperbahn and Schanzenviertel) and Schanzenviertel both have places that remind me of Soho (and London east), plus you can reach clubs for nightlife. Just walk around in that area and you'll find tons of nice places!

that's true, you will like Schanzenviertel. Right next to it there is Karolinenviertel, which is a little more alternative and has less latte drinking mommies. And once you make it to St. Pauli, you can still stay away from the Reeperbahn and have a great time. I personally love Park Fiction, a park overlooking the river where you can simply buy a few drinks at the store and then sit in the grass. Or if you are lucky enough to be there on a sunny day you could visit StrandPauli, a cute beach club right at the river.
Enjoy!
