I'm planning to do a road trip to the Grand Canyon from Colorado Springs with just me and my 3 kids (ages 5, 8 & 12). Is the north side our best bet? What activities would be good for our group -- we're outdoorsy and adventurous but, with just one adult, we're a bit limited.
The south rim has more activities such as Hopi House where they have traditional Native American dances. You could also do a helicopter tour. There are possible short hikes. Hiking on the South Rim is particularly suited for older kids. You can do a short distance down paved Rim Trail but going up is harder so keep that in mind. At the South Rim, Bright Angel Bicycles rents bicycles with pull-along trailers, children's bicycles and strollers. The Greenway Trail makes a lovely bicycle ride
The north rim is more isolated and quieter The gas station there has bike rentals.
