Angela & Bob
We are looking for your suggestions & itinerary ideas for a 1 week road trip; starting & ending in Munich this summer.
The previous week, we will have taken a Danube River Cruise from Passau to Vienna to Budapest and back to Passau. We will have another week after this and thought we would rent a car and take a road trip. We looked into renting car in Passau and returning it to Munich (as we fly out of Munich Aug 6th at noon). Not sure, but it seems like it might be better to rent & return the car in Munich (rather than rent in Passau & return in Munich).
NOW - given where we just have been on the river cruise --- where would YOU go for a one week road trip week from Munich? We are open to any ideas!
We would like to stay in B&Bs (if possible) along the way.
We've never been to Europe! We are a married couple in our early 60's.
Thanks for all your help and itinerary suggestions.
Oh.. also...anyone know of a travel agent who speaks English who can book the car and the lodging along the road trip? Thanks again!
I would choose to drive to Baden-Württemberg (southwest) area of Germany, with the first stop at Tubingen. Tubingen (photo below) is a charming university town, about 2 1/2 hours drive from Munich. Here is a list of places of interest in Tubingen: https://www.tuebingen.de/en/3327.html#/3333/3380
Then drive from Tubingen to Freiburg (less than 2 hours), an excellent base for exploring the southern region of the Black Forest. Freiburg is known as the sunniest city in Germany, which means you can almost always expect perfect weather there. It's also a university town like Tubingen and is close to the Swiss border.
As for your question on travel agents, unfortunately, I don't have one. I traveled with a German friend in Baden-Württemberg. You can reach out to the German Tourism Board for recommendations: http://www.germany.travel/en/index.html
