Stay in Lubeck or explore Hamburg?

Hi!

Our cruise ship stops in Lubeck next month- docking at 830am and leaving at 10pm.

My question is- do we stay close to the ship and explore Lubeck or do we take the excursion to Hamburg (about a 75 min drive)?

Would love thoughts and suggestions for whichever city you feel is best! We will have a very long day the next day in Berlin so happy to make this one an easy day, just want to make sure there is stuff to do in Lubeck that is worthwhile.

Thanks!

My vote is to go for Hamburg! The Museumshafen Oevelgönne e.V. is really interesting and has beautiful views. Hagenbecks Tierpark is a really pretty zoo, and picnic at Außenalster!

Hamburg is very well known for being one of the most beautiful places to visit in Germany. Full of gorgeous canals oysters and traditional Aalsuppe are a must try while you are there.

Hi Jaclyn,

Lübeck is a very old city with many many very old houses. It´s very beautyfull and if you like old houses and have a trip to middle age you can definatly stay a whole day there and relax also. On the other hand Hamburg is a very exciting city also but there is so much to see, that a few hours are not enough. So I would suggest if you like middle age houses and athmosphere stay in Lübeck, relax, enjoy , there is a lot to discover. If you are not so much into old buildings and athmosphere take a trip to hamburg. But all in all, the hamburg trip will be stress and you will have the feeling you didn´t have enough time for hamburg. This is my opinion.

Hey Jaclyn,

in my opinion you should definitely travel to Hamburg, if possible via train from Lübeck Hbf to Hamburg HBF, trains are leaving about every 30 mins, taking 45 mins, with two persons traveling purchase a "Kleingruppenkarte 2. Kl", it will cost you guys 34,50€ and it will allow you to use every public transport system for the day in that area.

Once in hamburg you should visit the Alsterpark, if the weather is not that good (which could be the case ;) the Miniatur Wunderland is always worth a visit. Of Course you can go Shopping, for example at the Europa Passage, which will put you also very close to the Rathaus, a really impressive building. This is also in walking range from the ALEX Hamburg im Alsterpavillon. If that is still not enough for you guys, contact me and you will get a guide, if i am available :)

Cheers!
