Switzerland is small. You'll want to go east along the shore of Lake Geneva, to towns like NyonMorges and Lausanne. It also is feasible to make a day trip northeast to FribourgYverdon-les-Bains and Neuchatel. For a nature experience, there's Canton of Jura and the Jura vaudois Natural Regional Park

Don't assume you need a car. Trains are wonderfully efficient and go just about everywhere.

Hey Laura, I used to live in Geneva and even if there's not much touristy things to do in the city per se, you can definitely spend four days there and take a couple of day trips.

Nyonhas a pretty castle overlooking the Lake Geneva and it's about 10-15 minutes by train

Annecy is a beautiful little town in France and it's definitely worth the trip, but you might have to drive or take a coach bus for that.

If you go to Montreux you can visit the Château de Chillon it's absolutely stunning.

In Geneva:

1. the UN Palace of Nations

2. The Old Town: St Pierr Cathedral, you can climb up and see the city from above it looks beautiful, Parc des Bastions has the Reformation Wall

3. La Jonction is where two rivers l'Arve and le Rhône join and it looks pretty cool

4. you can tour around CERN if you're interested.

obviously don't miss the Jet d'Eau from the Mont-Blanc Bridge

Food: Restaurant le Gruyèrien for typical swiss food, try the moitié moitié fondue and meringues with double crème à la gruyère, and Luigia has the best pizza and Aperol spritz in town. Mövenpick Restaurant Cendrier icecream is also something you have to try.

Hi Laura,

Geneva is nice for a day, but not for 4 days if you ask me. Switzerland is small and easy to get around to other towns by train. I spent 24 hours in three different cities along Lake Geneva. I went to GenevaLausanne and Montreux. I think 1 day in Geneva, 2 days in Lausanne and 1 day in Montreux should suffice.

Here's the link to my blog on 24 hours in Switzerland. Take a look for pics and details: http://www.travelholicsdiary.com/category/destinations/europe/switzerland/
