Looking for new ideas for Sanibel and Ft. Myers beach area.. will be there for a week and wondering if anyone has any suggestions for new restaurants or sights to see... Have done Ding Darling, the bike paths, the sunsets at Captiva, the Thriller and shelling... Thanks for any off the beaten path ideas.
Hello Katherine,
They recently opened (April 2014) 2.4 mile nature trail system on Sanibel. Pond Apple Park and Shipley Trail now are connected for a 2.4 mile trail. The trail starts at the roadside park just West of Dixie Beach Blvd on Periwinkle Way. Try the bakery at Jerry's Foods while your on the island for a tasty treat.
Have fun!!

Try an excursion to Useppa Island from Pineland marina. A beautiful place to visit and no cars. On Fort Myers Beach near Bonita, check out Carl Johnson Park.
I love the Lighthouse Waterfront Restaurant & Bar which is right off of the causeway, and enjoying a beer The Mucky Duck and watching the ocean around 1pm. The Sanibel Bean, which I'm sure you've probably been to, has great breakfast burritos and sandwiches. Have you considered taking a boat out to Pine Island? I've never been, but it might be worth exploring.
