Hello Nono,

Here are just a few ideas for you:

For design places the Designmuseo (The Design Museum) in Helsinki is worth visiting.

For beautiful towns I would recommend our capital Helsinki and also my home town Tampere is nice in summer time, as it is located between two big lakes. For small towns Porvoo and Rauma are lovely, as they both have some lovely old wooden houses in their old town centres. Also Turku is a nice summer town (about as big as Tampere).

For sights and history then; Suomenlinna in Helsinki is a historic place to visit and a ferry ride there is pleasant (at least when weather is nice). Helsinki in general has many nice sights like Senate Square, Sibelius Monument and Hakaniemi Market Hall.

Nature then: I would recommend the archipelago between Turku and Åland Islands, Punkaharju and Saimaa area for lakes and Saariselka for Lapland. To visit Lapland you can easily get cheap flights from Helsinki to Kittilä or Ivalo with Norwegian.

Hope you enjoy your trip to Scandinavia! Best places to visit will be a bit different if you visit in summertime or in wintertime.

For nature, it will be hard to beat Nuuksion National Park. If you're there in the evening, you may catch a glimpse of flying squirrels. It's also easy to get there - leave Helsinki on the train, transfer to another, grab a bus to the park and that's it. Super easy.

Turku is amazing. Very walkable and scenic, with a river running right through it; you'd never guess that many of the world's biggest cruise ships are built there. There's a great summer music festival there around June/July called Ruisrock. It spans many genres and is a lot of fun.

I'd also recommend Suomenlinna, a fortress island that requires a short boat ride from Helsinki. It's windy, but green and quiet. It has old fortresses, boatyards, restaurants, an old submarine ... great place to spend a day wandering.

And yeah, Helsinki. Just a great place to wander aimlessly. There's something for everybody. You don't even need a destination. If you have two feet and decent vision, you'll find interesting things to do and see.
