Michelle Rôças from Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro asked

Best cities to visit driving from Freiberg to Munich?

I'm traveling to Europe in October and still haven't decided which cities to visit on my 3 days I'll be renting a car.

I'll spend one night in Strasbourg, then will be traveling by car for three days, starting in Freiberg, until I reach Munich. The castle is in our plans.

Any suggestions?

Europe   Freiberg (Germany)   Munich (Germany)

You can go from Freiburg to Lake Konstanz. There are so many beautiful cities, for example LindauFriedrichshafenBregenz. You could also consider going farther south and visit Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Innsbruck, or Salzburg.

So you are already planning to go to Schwangau to see Neuschwanstein Castle correct? What if you left Freidberg early and went to visit the castles (about a 3 hour drive).  Last castle tour is done by about 6pm.  Would you then be able to drive another 2-3 hours to Salzburg? The next day you could explore Salzburg which is relatively small and really see most of the city in one day.

The last day, drive one hour from Salzburg to visit Hallstattfor the most picturesque town you will ever see.  This is another easy see-it-all-in-one-day trip.  Then drive back to Munich which would be about 2-3 hour drive.

This would give you 3 days and 2 nights to visit 3 different places.  You could spend both nights in Salzburg.

P.S.  Driving on the Autobahn is AMAZING!!!!  Have fun!

Wow, that's totally different from what I've thought and I loved it! I'm having second thoughts about the castle. I'm not in the mood for lines and crowds, and the Castle is suposed to have both, right? Do you think we could go to the city and see the Castle without doing the tour? Is it like the Vale du Loire castles we can walk around, even if we don't want to do the complete tour? I loved your suggestions, thanks. Salzburg was on my list, but it keeps growing and there's not enough time! Thanks again!

I really enjoyed the castles. Unfortunately, you can't just walk around, you must be on a tour, and you're not supposed to take pics inside of Neuschwanstein. Just buy your tickets ahead of time on their website so you don't have to stand in line.

Do you mean Freiberg or Freiburg? From Freiburg im Breisgau you could also take the itinerary via Switzerland. Basel-Stadt, Zurich, Lake Constance/or through the alps - as I like the mountains that would be my plan...
