Rachel from Encinitas asked

What are the best Restaurants/bars/pubs in Edinburgh?

I am going to be in Edinburgh for a few nights in September, and we are looking for some great places to eat and have a few drinks (not necessarily in the same place for dinner & drinks). Does anyone have any recommendations for some of the best traditional cozy pubs?  Plus, any recommendations for great food & dessert would be awesome! Looking for places with good food, but won't break the bank. Thanks!

I like Maison Bleue in Grassmarket and Bijou Bistro Ltd in Leith. Hanam's Lebanese restaurant is very good and great value as is Meze Meze Edinburgh near the National Gallery.

The Last Drop pub was the last place convicts went for a drop of Whisky before they were hanged at the Castle. Blue Blazer is cosy and nice and The Sheep Heid Inn (a walk away) is supposedly the oldest pub in Scotland.

Grassmarket has a couple of traditional pubs to visit! Also Hectors which is off center, but in a nice neighborhood. My brother (who studied there) suggests Brass Monkey as well!!

For something unusual (food wise) try Oink they have roasted pig every day and the place closes when they ran out of meat!

If you want cheaper food and drink do not eat in the city centre. if you have money then I suggest any restaurant in George street they are all good,  pubs in Leith and up up bridges are reasonable. then you have the High St which is not bad price wise but the Italian is expensive.
