Katie from Los Angeles asked

What's the best neighborhood in Durham (North Carolina) for a first time visitor?

I've never been to Durham (North Carolina) and I'm a little overwhelmed by all the hotel options. I'd like to stay in a hotel that is central and gives me good sense of what Durham (North Carolina) is like. I'd love to know where locals tell their friends to stay when they visit, and why those areas and hotels are special. thanks!

Downtown! We have two new boutique hotels, 21c Museum Hotel Durham and The Durham Hotel, that I would recommend. Both have great restaurants and bars and are centrally located to shopping, great restaurants and coffee, etc.

I am visiting here myself, but have found the areas nearest the Raleigh-Durham International Airport to be very convenient to both Durham and Raleigh with excellent shopping, restaurants and accommodations such as the Embassy Suites by Hilton Raleigh Durham Airport Brier Creek and Hampton Inn & Suites Raleigh-Durham Airport-Brier Creek near Brier Creek, not officially Durham but across the street with easy highway and central corridor access.
