Try SUGARFISH | Downtown LA. They offer several "trust me" fixed menus starting at $17 and the sushi is always fresh. It's a great value for what you get!

There are three downtown:

Nabeeya Fusion Cafe 766 S Santee St, Los Angeles, CA 90014 Phone: 213-622-5750
Roll Roll Roll (Koreatown, Wilshire Center)3675 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90010 Phone number(213) 386-3000
Sushi Stop 5917 Franklin Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90068 Phone number(323) 468-2496

Downtown has Little Tokyo, Los Angeles Chinatown, and Koreatown (Los Angeles). So lots to choose from in and around the area. Enjoy your stay. Don't forget to check-out the markets downtown: the famous ' Santee Alley' (you can bargain with the vendors).

Sushi Gen might be the best sushi in Little Tokyo. It's a little loud and a little cramped and very authentic, so prepare yourself. Sit at the counter and don't put soy sauce on anything already served with sauce!

Komasa in Little Tokyo might be the best example of high-quality sushi at good prices. Go early (like, when they open early) and you'll avoid a wait. Nearby  Sushi Gen is excellent but not worth waiting an hour to eat in my opinion. Sushi Go 55 is another good option. Both are more expensive than Komasa.

Arashi Sushi near 11th and Hope is actually a great little spot that has a happy hour from 5-7pm (or 8 maybe?) where you can get various orders of nigiri for $2.50. Probably the least expensive option if you go during that time.

It seems like everyone hypes about SUGARFISH | Downtown LA but I just don't see the big deal. I've gone a few times and it's fine, but it just didn't stand out in either quality or price. I live a block away and haven't been back.

Depending on where you live, almost ANY sushi you get in LA will completely blow you away. An average sushi restaurant here will likely be better than all but the very best sushi restaurants in the rest of the US.
