Just starting a playlist on SoundCloud for songs that remind us of travelling. You know the ones that you hear on your iPods/phones when you're on that hot & stuffy train, songs you have heard throughout time that act as signifiers for a certain place, songs that are inextricably linked with a destination etc.
Just wondering if you had any particular songs that you would like to share that remind you of travelling or previous travels?
Do you have songs that like to listen to when you're reading blogs etc. researching your next trip that gives you that extra sense of wanderlust?
It'll great to get all your ideas :)
Diva by Annie Lenox. It was big when I went to Paris for the first time.
Come Fly With Me by Frank Sinatra :)
Leaving on a jet plane by Peter, Paul and Mary
On The Road Again by Willie Nelson.
What a great question! Music is always a great way to transport me back to a memorable trip. Many albums, listened to in the dead of winter, remind me of warmer days travelling. India Arie's "Acoustic Soul" always brings me back to long summer days driving through the vineyards of the Languedoc-Roussillon with the roof rolled back.
Last year, in California we listened to 2pac's "California" and forever it will invoke balmy mornings walking on Runyon Canyon and in Griffith park.
Little Dragon's "Ritual Union" transports me to a wonderful, wine-filled night in La Latina Madrid. Tom Waits' "Rain Dogs" brings back a driving trip to the West Cork coast, Prince's "Kiss" transports me to a long-ago trip to New York State in late spring.
Noah and the Whale was the only album we had in our rental car on the trip from London to the Cotswold District and forever "The first Days of Spring" will bring a big smile to my face when I think of that wonderful trip. Cyrus Chestnut always reminds me of Lisbon and I can't listen to Olu Dara without feeling that I'm on a train in Italy
I hope your playlist makes you as happy as mine makes me!
Mentioned in this answer:
Magic Carpet Ride- Steppenwolf? Reminds me of a cross country drive across Canada up to the Yukon. It was playing as we drove away from my hometown. :-)
Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America(albums) by Supertramp remind me of driving/camping our way through France and Spain when I was a kid. Especially the lush Spanish countryside.. sigh. :-) I love how music can just 'bring you there'.

Oktoberfest...doesn't matter which tent, doesn't matter which year....the Aviator (Fliegerlied) song. SWIM, SWIM, SWIM over to you. Google it, it's a divine memory!!!
The song Switzerland by Last Bison. I listened to it throughout my entire trip to Iceland and just the energy and lyrics of it really reminds of you of being in the great outdoors

Also, Far Away Trains Passing By (Ulrich Schnauss) and Moby Destroyed
"Old Cape Cod" by Patti Page always reminds me of the Cape! If you have ever been there you will appreciate the song.

"Country Road" by John Denver and so many more!
Firstly your blog is very good! What theme do you use?
The song that reminds me most of my travels is; Bon Iver- I cant make you love me. It was the only song that was soothing enough to help me through a rough ferry journey from Phi Phi to Phuket in Thailand whilst hungover and suffering from food poisoning.
I have a lot of these songs!!!!
One Republic-If i Lose Myself(Kasual Edit)
Calvin Harris- Blame
Kid Rock- All summer long
The Killers- Shot At the Night
Vance Joy- Riptide
Snoop Dogg- Young, wild and free
Hello Ben. Interesting question! There is a tropical song "Bailando por ahi" (Juan Magan) that reminds me of a beautiful trip my daughter and I spent in Madrid back in 2012.
Yanni Prelude always accompanies me when writing on my blog or searching a new destination.
