So, I am looking to travel and stay with some friends in Aurora Colorado (a suburb of Denver), and am looking for some interesting things to do. We will be traveling on a major budget so am thinking we can spend a significant amount of our budget on gas to drive around and explore all the natural beauty the state has to offer which will be cheaper. Since there is an overabundant amount of cool things to do there I'm trying to find the best hidden gems to narrow my focus. I know for sure we are camping around the Aspen area for labor day weekend so anything around there would be great as well. Love unique restaurants and off the beaten path kinda places. Anything within a few hours of there would be perfect for a day trip and we will be staying for 10 days. Thanks so much for any input.
We just got back from a 10-day trip to Colorado which includes Denver and Aspen. Try the oak-grilled double cheeseburger, market and kale and apple salad, and donut at Acorn House in downtown Denver. We also recommend the Downtown Aquarium, Denver Botanic Gardens, Voodoo Doughnut Mile High, Torchy's Tacos, Little Man Ice Cream Boulder is a short drive from Denver. We loved the Boulder Farmer's Market (on Saturday), as well as Into the Wind toy and kite store and Boulder Bookstore, located a walking distance from Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder.
Be sure to go to Maroon Bells if you're in Aspen. Take the shuttle as roads are closed to drivers from 8 - 5 but be sure to be back by 5pm for the last shuttle ride.
Just found out this was on Labor Day weekend which is when we were there - that is the same weekend as the Labor Day Lift Off in Colorado Springs - an annual ballon festival with over 65 balloons in a lift off and race during the day and balloon glow at dusk with other fun activities.
