Denmark, Europe

3 weeks in Europe. What cities would be best for 3 active, hands on boys?

We are headed to Europe this summer. 3 boys ages 9, 7, 3.5. They love hands on Science museums, big parks/playgrounds. We are starting the trip in Denmark, wanted to fly somewhere via ryanair or something equivalent, then take the Euro Rail around to a few cities. Looking for suggestions for cities that have things that boys would love to see/do.

We took my oldest to Spain when they were similar ages.  They loved the swords in Toledo , Bull Fights in Madrid , Flamenco dancing in Seville , and visiting a bull fighting museum in Ronda   They liked the castles, churches and castles in other cities but those were the ones they talked about for years after.

The most famous themse park in Denmark is LEGOLAND which is fairly ok when it comes to being active for the kids.

Denmarks second biggest airport Billund Airport is right next to Legoland and it's a Ryanair hub.

A lesser known but even better park is Danfoss Universe A/S which is a really good hands on science place as well as an amusement park.

Nearby Sonderborg is a very pleasant and pretty town to stay overnight.

Egeskov Castle is more than just a castle. It has a some pretty good exhibits of old cars, a really nice park and is quite child friendly for a cultural attraction.

Faaborg and Svendborg are two nearby towns that are nice to stay in if you decide to head that way.

And if you are flying in and out of Denmark then you should check out airlines like www.easyjet.com and www.norwegian.com. These airlines have more flights in and out of Copenhagen that Ryanair and tend to fly to more centrally located airports than Ryanair, who often fly to out of the way provinsial airports with little public transport.

Enjoy your trip to Denmark :)

Sarah from Hamburg

hey Peter,

from Denmark you could easily go to Hamburg (there is a train connection). There is tons of stuff to do for your kids and yourself.
From there you could take a cheap flight to London with easyjet and after that a Eurostar to Paris. With that you'll only have a couple of hours in between your stops and don't waste too much time travelling.

You could consider checking out the countryside around one of the cities. Hamburg is close to the ocean, so maybe you can do some beachtime and let your boys play in the sand?

have fun!
