Is Delhi worth a visit?

I'll be going to India for 2.5 weeks, and so far I'm planning on going to Agra, Jaipur, and Goa, but I'm wondering if I should try and spend a couple days in Delhi too. Is Delhi worth a visit? Would love some advice and recommendations about things I would be sad to miss. It's my first trip to India. Thanks!

Hi Jennifer! If you are planning to spend two days in Delhi, it would be worth it. Delhi is good for primarily two things - architectural wonders and shopping. I'd advise you to experience traveling on Metro and DTC AC Buses as well. But, don't travel in old Delhi alone. Areas that are upmarket are Connaught Place, Khan Market, Greater Kailash and South Delhi. But DON'T go around the city after 7 pm alone. Take care of yourself. Delhi is a fun city!

As Renuka mentions, Delhi is home to some of the world's most stunning historical architecture.Qutab Minar blew me away and the Red Fort cannot be missed.

You can see photos of these places and others in my Delhi Photo Gallery; pick the places you think you'd like to see the most (scroll down to the bottom for Delhi). There is also a lot of information on the other places you have mentioned.

I also recommend you check out this short post for inspiration on Delhi.

If you are planning to Agra and Jaipur then New Delhi should be your entry point to India. It is one of the best cities infrastructure wise in India with a lot to see like : Qutab Minar ( A 74 meter tall tower about 1100 years old), Red Fort from Mughal Era, Jantar Mantar an astronomy observatory built by Rajput King of Jaipur, lots of Bazaars right from Connaught Place (Connaught Place) to Old Delhi. And the food, you get the best food in India in Delhi both street food as well as fine dining. So don't miss Delhi considering you will anyway be passing from the same as it forms the Golden Triangle of Delhi, Jaipur and Agra.

It is certainly worth a visit. It is a large Indian city so does have it's issues like traffic, pollution etc. but if you can look past that and focus instead on the more authentic Delhi experiences like food in Old Delhi, the avenues of central Delhi, Lotus Temple, Akshardham Temple, stroll around Connaught Place in the evening, late night street won't be dissappointed.
