We drove the historic Gold Camp Road from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek.  The old mining town isn't much but the Gold Camp Road drive is incredible for scenery and touching Colorado's wilderness.

Up through Flagstaff, north to Tuba City, across the reservation... make a stop at Navajo National Monument to see Betatakin, either from the lookouts or take the tour down to it.  Then, further up the road is views of Monument Valley.  It’s worth going in and either driving your own car through the park, or taking the Navajo guided tour (recommended).  Traveling on, you turn towards Cortez, Colorado.  I guess you have to stop at Four Corners Monument (takes 10 minutes... good for a rest).  On the way out of Cortez, towards Durango, stop in at Mesa Verde National Park.  This is an all day stop.  There is so much to see!  On to Durango and the Silverton train.  Do spend a bit of time in Durango... it’s a cool town.  Go east to Pagosa Springs (Colorado) to try out the hot springs.  From there you go north to Denver and on to wherever you want.
