Where would be the best place for a surf trip- CR, Mexico, or Nicaragua?

I want to take a surf trip with my buddies for my birthday, but can't decide between Mexico, Nicaragua or Costa Rica. Any suggestions ?

Hey Michael! I would suggest Dominican Republic actually. CR is alright but too expensive. Mexico is beautiful but too crowded. Nicaragua is (very) cheap and not too touristy.

Nicaragua for sure! Cheap, not too touristy and GREAT WAVES! I just did a trip with CHICABRAVA in San Juan del Sur (sorry, girls only) and they took us to the best surf spots in San Juan del Sur - Playa Hermosa and Playa Remanso. Plus the town is fun - great nightlife with cheap and authentic food.

Costa Rica seriously competes with the worlds best surfing on both coastlines however the Pacific swell is the the ultimate deal and the small extra expense is usually uniquely rewarded.General Trippy MediaGeneral Trippy Media

There are so many places that are accessible and still remote that you can surf at that we would spend pages here. To mention a few must dos I will enumerate in no order some of the best places because they have all the infrastructures and amenities you need between hitting the swells.

Also it is important to know the type of communities so you can truly choose the basics of your experience particularly celebrating birthdays.

    1. Jaco Beach great schools with world champion teachers, amazing pizzas, casinos and lots of beautiful women from around the world picking hot guys up for a party. You have any level of hotel $ from hostels 10$ a day to 6 star penthouse with yachts. They even have a whole paseo dedicated to surfing and the statues of champs.
    2. Montezuma Beach, amazing sustained kick backed hippies doing it right in the woods along the rugged coast as far as you can go either way. Basic camping up to Luxury levels and the food is unforgettable, top ratings everywhere here.
    3. Santa Teresa, Malpais, Arguably the best in the world and home to many stars of rich and famous. Enormous beaches with long swells and lots of amenities for celebrations makes it a winner.
    4. Remote areas for real adventure surfing begin in Manuel Antonio National Park and beyond, impressive national parks full of wildlife in the trees during the day and tons of fancier types of wildlife partying at night, very, very cosmopolitan from camping to Luxury level with an exaggerated number of top quality spas, salons, banks, bars, restaurants, organic stands and super beautiful hotels on an amazing seaside park full of lush flowering tropical vegetation.
    5. Also think about Tamarindo in the Guanacaste Northern region near Nicaragua and south to Panama in the Osa Peninsula, and Drake Bay, home of many types of wjhales and dolphins also who like to celebrate where remote surfing by helicopter, plane and boat gets you to stunning remote locations favorite of fine nature film producers and their fans.

The nature is spectacular in all the areas you will visit in Costa Rica, see the Costa Rica Nature Conservatory blog for stories and photos with more information to guide you on the good path, peace and Pura Vida.

The surfing doesn't get a lot better than Matapalo Beach on the Osa Peninsula as well Playa Guiones on the southern Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. It isn't as cheap as Nicaragua, but Costa Rica's tourist infrastructure is far superior......especially helpful if you've not traveled there before. Our favorite is Matapalo; you can rent a house there and enjoy both the surf and the nearby jungle.

Costa Rica as Well as Mexico are busy and crowded places to surf or even to tour around, Please do not get me wrong both are really nice places but fighting for a wave is never Nice, on the other hand Nicaragua has good surf spots, few surfers, Safe and not that pricey.
