First of all Copenhagen is not a great city to visit ... it is a great place to live, but not exciting enough for a short trip. Keep your expectations reasonably low.

In Copenhagen, depending on the weather you will have very different options.

In case of cold, windy and rainy weather:

  1. Louisiana Museum of Modern Art
  2. Statens Museum for Kunst
  3. A cozy concert at Café Retro
  4. A blues jam at Mojo Blues Bar
  5. Jazz at La Fontaine
  6. Shopping at Illums Bolighus
  7. A drink at Props Coffee Shop or Harbo Bar
  8. Dancing at Karriere Bar or Jolene Bar
  9. A burger at Halifax
  10. A dinner at Spiseloppen (having visited Christiania)

In case of sunshine (very rare):

  1. Strolling with your bike anywhere (particularly in Christianshavn)
  2. A barbecue at Amagerstrand Promenade
  3. A drink at sunset at Halvandet
  4. Running around the lakes
  5. Visiting Rosenborg Slot and the Botanisk Have (Botanical Garden)
  6. Shopping in Torvehallerne
  7. Riding your bike to  Dragor
  8. Eating at one of the restaurants facing the lakes such as Thai Pan or Kaffesalonen
  9. Walking from Nyhavn to The Little Mermaid
  10. Renting a kajak and paddling around the city

I wasn't in Copenhagen for long enough to have a top 10 list, but I can say -- do not miss the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. No matter what kind of art you like, they always have something going on that’s really interesting. I’ve seen modern photography there as well as French impressionists. When you go, make sure you have lunch in their wintergarden. The setting is gorgeous and they make a point of using organic ingredients in their food.

One other thing that I really enjoyed were the Tivoli gardens.  Very beautiful and they apparently  switch things up there seasonally.  Always colorful.

I visited a friend in Copenhagen in late May and, although it did rain on and off, we rode our bikes everywhere and did a ton of outdoorsy things.  I think you'll find all three of your questions (crazy, colorful and funny!) answered if you visit Freetown Christiania.  Christiania is like a real life wonderland.  The homes are built out of strange materials.  There is beautiful artwork all around.  There are lovely places to sit and picnic along the canal.  Don't take photos on Pusher Street - you'll see signs everywhere that warn you.  Do have a beer in the beer garden.  It really was a sort of magical place!

I promise you won't be disappointed.

I studied abroad in Copenhagen last summer and my top 10 things to see/do would be:

1. Freetown Christiania

2. Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

3. Kronborg Slot

4. Canal Tours Copenhagen

5. Tivoli

6. Nyhavn

7. Amagerstrand Promenade (if the weather is nice)

8. Roskilde Cathedral

9. Carlsberg Brewery if you like beer

10. Rundetårn for a nice view of Copenhagen

The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and Kronborg slot might take up a whole day, but if you have the time I highly recommend checking them out. Gorgeous setting for a museum and the Kronborg slot is a very impressive castle.

For places to eat, I recommend Formel B, Amass, Geranium, Told&Snaps, Andersens Bakery, TorvehallerneKødbyens Fiskebar, and Restaurant Geist.

Hope you have a great time, I miss Copenhagen dearly and can't wait until I come back.

Biking is certainly the most fun activity in Copenhagen (along the water is best). There are many very hidden cocktail bars (best being 1105) at Kristen Bernikows Gade 4 in the middle of the city and walking at night on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday may bring all sorts of adventures.

Good Evening Karl.  What do you like to do?  Also when will you be going?  CPH is very compact so if you're a bikerider a bike tour of the city would be great, and maybe finish off at the Brewery?

If you're going near the end of the month Tivoli has the Halloween festival which is nice as well.  Great Pumpkin Soup.

Let me know.  It's a great city, but you'll have to plan since it's very expensive.

Nyhavn is always colorful, though best during the summer where you can enjoy a beer outside,  Tivoli is a bit small but a good break from the city. Go window-shopping (and maybe even people-spotting) down  Strøget have a great burger at  Vesterbros Originale Burgerrestaurant or maybe one of the restaurant at the old meat-packing district  Kødbyen.

More colorful ideas could be  Urban Ranger Camp or  Freetown Christiania.
