I can't advise on hotels or sight-seeing...you can use google to research those aspects...but the fastest route from Colton to San Antonio (approximately 1300 miles) is:
1.  From Colton take the I-10 east, passing through or near BanningPalm Springs and Blythe.
2.  When you reach the eastern outskirts of Phoenix take a right onto the 202 to avoid the city centre. Follow the 202 around the city until you can rejoin I-10 south/east.
3. Continue eastwards on the I-10  passing through or near TucsonDemingLas CrucesEl PasoFort Stockton and Sonora (Texas) before finally arriving at San Antonio.
Note that this route involves some long stretches of road with little or no nearby habitation. Research and plan your fuel & rest stops carefully.
