Colombia, Bogota, Medellin, Santa Marta, Cartagena

What are the best ways to travel within Colombia?

I'm planning on visiting Bogota, Medellin, Cartagena and Santa Marta (Lost Trek) for a 2 week vacation.

How would you recommend getting from city to city?

I'm thinking of flying, and ideally can use Chase Ultimate Rewards / Avios points to fund these domestic flights.

Thanks in advance!

Given your tight time frame I'd highly recommend flying.*

You can purchase one-way tickets a couple days advance for cheap ($60-$90 in 2013). I flew on Avianca, Copa and LAN. All were very comfortable and modern.

Copa and Avianca are United partners so you might be able to use your Chase Rewards with those airlines. VivaColombia is the local budget airline and even cheaper. They do not accept foreign credit card purchases online so you must purchase over the phone or at the airport.

*Alternative suggestion: The Lost City trek will eat up almost a week of your trip. I had the same two-week schedule and itinerary but to fit everything in, I replaced the Lost City with a magical hike through Tayrona National Natural Park. We stayed in hammocks on the beach in Cabo San Juan de la Guia. From there you can do a self-guided day hike through the jungle to the Pueblito ruins

Excuse the unusual answer, but the best way is by motorcycle! Many people like myself tour it this way. I would recommend Moto Aventura Colombia in Cali for rental.

There is no better way to explore Colombia.

Some adventurous spirit required.

Travel by plain. With car it will take you at least 13 hours from Bogota to the coast.

Cartagena - Santa Marta I recommend bus.
