Jan, Cleveland is the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame  - a great spot to visit for music lovers.  Even if you don't consider yourself an "art" person, visit the Cleveland Museum of Art, recently voted the #2 art museum in the U.S.  Best of all, it is always free!    Theater?  Playhouse Square and the Cleveland Playhouse provide outstanding opportunities.  Sports?  The Football Hall of Fame is just down the road in Canton, OH - but if you're in town in spring/summer, The Cleveland Indians,  the fall?  The Browns...and The Cavaliers in winter if you don't mind that they're in a "rebuilding phase" after LeBron left.
For food, try Fire Food and Drink at Shaker Square, fine dining?  The Marble Room, reservations a must.  Like Corned beef?  Slyman's.  Pizza? Citizen Pie.  Vietnamese?  Minh Anh.  There are so many incredible choices.

From Chicago to Woodstock (New York) the most direct route is I-80.  In the Sandusky area there is the Thomas A Edison Birthplace Museum, Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve, Senaca Caverns and on the lake shore there is Vermilion Lighthouse  In Amherst (Ohio) there is a train depot, Hauntville Haunted Houses, Nielson Observatory and Hauntville Haunted Houses.  (I haven't been any of those places but some of them look interesting.
When you get to Elyria you have a choice - you can take I-90 along the Lake Erie lakefront to Buffalo (which of course is near Niagara FallsThe route takes you through upstate NY through Syracuse and Albany (New York)
Or you can branch off in Erie and take I-81 and I-84 through lower NY state through Elmira and Corning (New York) (glass museum).
Or you can stay on I81 through the middle of Pennsylvania - it goes near Williamsport (Pennsylvania) (Little League Museum, paddlewheel boat, Millionaire's Row and up to Newburgh which is near West Point (New York)
