This will be our 4th trip to Chicago in the past 6 years. We seen to alternate between Chicago and New York annually for a weekend getaway. This year it will be 4 nights and we are staying in River North. We have done most touristy visits and are not sports buffs...just wondering what how to spend our time this visit? We will be there in 2 weeks.
Normally it would be warmer by now, but this colder weather has been dragging on.
If it's warm enough, an interesting thing that locals would do is check out all the smaller food festivals and art festivals. You could walk around Lincoln Park and Lakeview and just pop into local shops.
In the summer, I would recommend biking along the Lakefront Trail from Museum Campus up to Oak Street Beach or North Avenue Beach, but it doesn't look like it's going to be warm enough yet for your trip.
If it's cold, you could check out the world class museums if you haven't yet. The other thing is to see a show, you can probably get tickets easier than New York. Check out The PrivateBank Theatre, Oriental Theatre, Cadillac Palace Theatre, or others. Or from River North, you can easily pop over to see Blue Man Group if you haven't before.
Those are all non-sports things to do (and less touristy). There's plenty more local restaurants and shops to explore, Chicago is ideal in the summer and you're kind of in the middle season so I might suggest you mix up indoor and outdoor to see some cool neighborhoods but also sit inside for a show.
