    Hi Steve-

On a nice day you can head over to Maggie Daley Park, the newly opened park next to Millennium Park that has a great playground. Lincoln Park Zoo is another great free option for a nice day and for museums you have the Chicago Children's Museum at Navy pier, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Field Museum of Natural History - all great options. The Shedd Aquarium is right next to the Field Museum and is a cool spot to check out as well. Have fun!

Chicago Children's Museum is extremely kid-friendly for obvious reasons, but a bit pricey. Millennium Park and Maggie Daley Park are close to one another and have fun climbing things/interactive sculpture for kids. The Art Institute of Chicago has a free kids' room — you don't have to pay entrance to use it/play there. Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum is fun for kids and by the Lincoln Park Zoo which is free.

Chicago has many great activities to do with children. At Navy pier, you will find one of the best children's museums. In addition, the Pier has a Ferris wheel, shopping, and boat rides on Lake Michigan. Chicago has several museums to choose from that will definitely fill a day. Start with The Museum of Science and Industry which has several hands-on exhibits. If history is your thing, check out Field Museum of Natural History. Across from the Field Musuem is the Shedd Aquarium which has a dolphin show Another great museum for children is the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. In Lincoln Park, you can go through the Lincoln Park Zoo. It's small, but quaint. Chicago is a great place to visit, especially in the summer!

Off the subject . As a true native Chicagoan, born and raised, (Schaumburg is not the city) trust me when I tell you that the deep dish pizza is a tourist thing. Get thin crust. Starting after Memorial Day the street festivals start. They typically run Friday through Sunday. Google which ones are going on during your stay. They all have kid sections. Some have amazing kid sections. Fun for both you and your kids. You get to listen to bands, eat good food, and if inclined indulge in a cocktail or two. The museums are cool too but FYI crowded in the summer during the weekends.

Field Museum of Natural Historyimage from fieldmuseum.org

Chicago has some of the best museums anywhere. I used to love when my parents took me to Chicago. It mostly depends on what your kids are into. Each museum can easily take up a half-day or more, so for a day trip you'll be able to visit one or two at most.

Museum of Science and Industry is fantastic, even for those not particularly interested in science with lots of fun, hands-on, interactive exhibits.

Field Museum of Natural History is less hands-on and more for children who are more interested in science, but you can see Sue, the world's most complete T-Rex.

Shedd Aquarium is one the best aquariums you'll find.

Adler Planetarium for children interested in astronomy

Top it off with some authentic Chicago deep dish pizza. Giordano's, Lou Malnati's Pizza, Home Run Inn Pizza & Family Restaurant are all great -- although native Chicagoans all claim to have a favorite ;-) But get there early to avoid long lines.

Candyality, but only if you dare having two young boys finding the ultimate sugar rush home!

    Have fun!

The Lincoln Park Zoo is free if you want to visit a zoo.

Now that the summer has started, there is usually live music or performances in Millennium Park.

Water taxis are a good way to see the architecture and buildings from the river which is right in the middle of the city.
