My husband had a very bad experience with air quality in Beijing. He had a cough that lasted for a year after that trip. This October, he has a work trip to Chennai. What is the air quality like there?
The air is polluted here in Chennai, but compared to other parts of the country (ex: the capital Delhi), it's way better. Also, Chennai is no comparison to Beijing. Chennai is predominantly an IT hub, and most of the pollution is from vehicles. Large scale industries typically are located at other towns around Chennai.
You surely won't be affected with air pollution, but currently there are incidents of H1N1 Flu doing the rounds here. So a good mask would surely come in handy for your husband.
Furthermore, since you're mentioning it's a work trip, rest assured that the air quality at the office space would be good. Also, he'd probably commute to and from the workspace in a cab, so I'd not be too worried. Taking basic medical precautions would suffice.
Hope this helped?
Yes, the air quality is better in Chennai when compared to other major cities in India.
Chennai is a city with a bit of Air pollution within the city limits. If you have to ride along the ECR, you'll get some fresh Air. But as you said, it is business trip that he's taking, he can be a bit careful about roaming out in day time. It's very hot, humid and dusty!
Quality of Air is much better there, Beijing is the worst place to be at
Chennai is a beautiful city for a short or longer stay. The climate could be humid and hot in the initial but gets along. The pollution is a common situation across many states, needless to worry, being an official trip he gets busy with work schedule, indoor. The night gets pleasant and average weather is cool. I remember in my earlier assignment, where a team from Japan used to visit us, and they had a pleasant trip in Chennai.
