Katie from Los Angeles asked

What's the best neighborhood in Chapel Hill for a first time visitor?

I've never been to Chapel Hill and I'm a little overwhelmed by all the hotel options. I'd like to stay in a hotel that is central and gives me good sense of what Chapel Hill is like. I'd love to know where locals tell their friends to stay when they visit, and why those areas and hotels are special. thanks!

Chapel Hill (North Carolina)

I always go AirBnB so I don't have recommendations for hotels although The Siena Hotel and Il Palio Ristorante is often cited.  It's a great town.  The main area is East Franklin Street close to Unc Chapel Hill.  There are lot's of good restaurants and it's a great stroll.  UNC campus is also great to walk through.  Often there are events on at the school or Durham Performing Arts Center in Durham.  Also look to Carrboro (North Carolina) and Weaver Street Market  as a great hangout (it's a food coop with a great outdoor area).  Don't forget to visit Duke University and Durham (North Carolina).  It's only 20 minutes away and the city is emerging as a powerhouse for music, food, and art.  Both very different.  I used to live in Durham but love the Chapel Hill lifestyle.  Your right in the middle of the triangle of 3 great cities - Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh.  Each has a different flavor.  Each is fun.  Enjoy.
