I will be travelling to France's Champagne region in early October of this year. I have been told that, because it is a country/farm setting, most wineries/houses are actually closed on the weekends. Has anyone had success finding places which are open to hosting people on Saturdays or Sundays? Or, perhaps somebody has alternative suggestions (aside from tasting at wineries) for what to do to fill the time? We are more than happy to sit in wine bars, check out the sights, walk around some of the small towns, etc. Thanks in advance!
There are several champagne houses in Reims. I'm not 100% sure about vineyards but Saturdays are open year round in Reims' houses, Sundays usually fall off in low season. We did the G.H. Mumm and Maison de Champagne Taittinger tours, they were great. Taittinger was the best though. If you're in Reims you could check out the Reims Cathedral and the Palais du Tau as well.
