Free things to do in Cancun?

Hoping to spend as little money as possible on an upcoming trip to Cancun. What are the best free or inexpensive things/activities you can do there? Would love to hear your favorites, thanks!

Hello Tandy:

Obviously: going to the beach. Beaches are some of the most attractive places to visit in Cancun and there's a fair share of public Beaches to visit, one of the most famous is Playa Delfines which now has "Cancun" written with 3dimensional letters which people uses a lot for making photos.

Travel to Isla Mujeres for less than 30 USD round trip. This if you go from Puerto Juárez which you can Reach on an R1 bus. Avoid as much as you can going from El Embarcadero ferry terminal since it is more expensive.

Take a bus or a van to Playa del Carmen for about 5USD round trip. There, you can visit Burger King 5a Avenida and walk around.

While you're at it, you might want to stop at Puerto Morelos (and say hi!) It is a small town with more beach. For about 20USD you can take a boat and snorkel in the reef. If you're lucky enough you will see some sand sculptures in the beach right next to the plaza.

What kind of activities are you looking for? Let me know the specific details and I'll provide further assistance.

Regards!

Some of the nearby ruins can be expensive to see but the El Rey Zona Arqueológica, which are really cool mayan ruins and its are also really cheap—under $5 bucks. There’s a really cool eco park called Xcaret that will give you a free day for each day you buy. You can swim with sharks there (literally), take a boat down a river, snorkel, etc. Mercado 28 is a great little flea market-y place with cool handicrafts that make great souvenirs and is pretty cheap. Palapas Park is a fun little public park that has a lot of great free outdoor concerts.

Try Market 23, it's the cheapest place to buy souvenirs take the bus, haggle/negotiate with the merchants and you will get all your shopping for at least 40 percent cheaper than anywhere else in cancun

It's not free but the interactive AQUARIUM cancún is really cheap (10 bucks I believe) and really fun! I love sea life so this was cool to see.

Take a ferry to Isla Mujeres and do some snorkeling! This is a great place for snorkeling, we had so much for and the ferry ride was only 3 pesos!
