I would like to consider options to travel from Barcelona airport to Calpe. Also, we have a return in the early am for a flight about 7 AM in Barcelona.
Comparing prices for car rentals. A day cost is $70 certainly faster and perhaps cheaper for other travel options for two adults.
When planning a return in the early AM it seems that a car rental is more practical.
For two or three week rental is about $350 quoted online. Are there other costs to consider for rental at this price. We have USAA insurance and coverage with our credit card.
Is gas going to make up a larger portion of the added cost to renting a car ?
Calpe is a long way from Barcelona Airport....almost 300 miles and at least 4.5 hours' drive (and almost certainly longer). As your flight is so early (you'll need to be there by 5am at the latest and preferably much earlier) imo it would be more sensible to book an airport hotel for the night before your flight rather than a) risk delays getting to the airport and b) make it much, much easier to drop off your hire car. It is very unlikely that the car hire office will be staffed in the early hours of the morning and, again imo, leaving a car without staff to receive & check it over is always risky anywhere in the world.
As the distance is so great a private transfer is going to be very expensive indeed.
There are bus + bus and bus + train options but the journeys are very lengthy. You can look at www.rome2rio.com to explore options.
Petrol ('gas') is around 1.15 euro per litre (roughly two pints) in Spain at the moment, though it will obviously vary a little from petrol station to petrol station. How much it adds to your car hire costs depends entirely on the vehicle concerned and how much driving you do:
