Check out Debbie's answer on Trippy where a member asked about the halfway point between San Francisco and Los Angeles. You can also type in any two cities in the Trippy road trip planner to see the most recommended places.

LA to San Francisco

San Francisco to San Diego

San Diego to Las Vegas

There's definitely a lot to see along the coast, but San Diego to Las Vegas may be a little trickier since most locals tend to rush to Vegas from LA.

A lot of the places people talk about are hotels like the Madonna Inn Resort & Spa though that may be more money than you want to spend.

If you get a list of various towns along the route as Mike mentioned, you can then research each town to look for smaller motels or see if there's an Airbnb that might work for you.

Sounds like you have lots of time to explore, so it should be a great trip!

Hi Liat,

Depending on your budget, you can find motels between San Diego & San Francisco all over the place.  The nicest places to stay are along the coast in places like-

Santa Barbara

San Luis Obispo

Monterey

Carmel By the Sea

Santa Cruz

Los Angeles is also between San Diego & San Francisco.

Hope that helps!

No worries, there are lots and lots of them.

Your big decision will be whether to take the fast inland route from L.A. to San Francisco, or the slow but very scenic coastal route.

If you really want to see California, take the coastal route and allow a couple days. Take Highway 101 from Los Angeles stopping to check out gorgeous Santa Barbara. Continue on from there to San Luis Obispo where you'll turn left onto Highway 1. From this point on to Carmel is one of the world's most scenic highways. Carmel is also lovely and worth a stop. Take the scenic 17 mile drive in Carmel to find out how the rich live.

I don't find L.A. to be very interesting. San Diego, Santa Barbara, Highway 1 along the coast, Carmel, and San Francisco are the places where I'd allocate my time.

Have a great trip and put up a post here afterwards to let us know how you fared.
