Other than LA, what are good places to go with small kids and family in California?
Do you want a winter vacation? (Meaning, do you want snow, ski, cabins?) If so, try Lake Tahoe. It's easy to fly in to either Reno or Sacramento and then drive up. It's beautiful there. If you want to warm up in the winter, what about Palm Springs? It's a desert town just east of LA, and you can fly in there directly.
Solvang! It's a little Danish village that I would think any kid would love! If you've got the patience for it, you could also try LEGOLAND California. I also think Cambria is a great place for kids--just enough to do without having them get cranky.

Palm Springs is absolutely beautiful in the winter. There are a ton of hotels to stay at, but if you're traveling with children, renting a house may be the better option. That way you'll have access to a full kitchen, laundry room, and private pool. There are so many attractions the kids will enjoy too, like checking out the dried up salt lake.
Hope this helps!
