Holliday travel to Banff

We are a couple from Puerto Rico planning a Holliday travel arriving to Calgary to take a shuttle to Banff Town and Lake Louise. This will be our first time with Snow so I dont have any idea on which kind of ski jackets we need to be enough warm as we are from a 90° F weather all year. Please help!! We will be there the last 2 weeks of December.

Please also recommend things to do that we should not miss. Are these the best places in Banff to stay for Christmas and New Year's eve ?? We will not be driving as we are not used to snowy roads.

Weather in Banff and Lake Louise at the end of December can vary widely. You should plan for -5 to -15 Celsius and some snow on the ground. Many makes of winter jackets will tell you what temperatures they are designed for, so check for that. Make sure you also have insulated mittens or gloves, and warm footwear. You will also want something to keep your head warm, like a toque or warm hat that covers your ears. You can buy all of these things once you are in Calgary Banff or Lake Louise. There are lots of winter outfitters.

Spending Christmas and New Years in Banff or Lake Louise can be beautiful and fun. The major hotels, like the The Fairmont Banff SpringsThe Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and Rimrock Resort Hotel, have lots of activities--sleigh rides, ice skating, campfires--and the Town of Banff looks like a Christmas village with all the decorations.

There's public transport to get you around the area so you can avoid driving on winter roads.
