Best way to see Great Barrier Reef for seniors

Going in March on a cruise from Perth through New Zealand, ending in Snyde.  We have already arranged to fly to Cairns for 3 days to see the Great Barrier Reef.  But now wondering what is the best way to see it?  Also any other sights not to miss while in Cairns?  Not divers, any other way to see?  Thanks for your help.  Suggestions for places to stay?

Mary Ann, the Reef is a distance from the city of Cairns City so the only way you can see it is by catamaran.  You can book it in advance to make sure of the availability.  You don't need to dive.  They have other ways of viewing it.  From Cairns, I would do the train to Kuranda (with the skyrail return) and also a visit to the Daintree Rainforest(if you have time.)  The Reef is a full day trip.  Hope that helps.
