Burlington (Vermont)

What's the best neighborhood in Burlington (Vermont) for a first time visitor?

I've never been to Burlington (Vermont) and I'm a little overwhelmed by all the hotel options. I'd like to stay in a hotel that is central and gives me good sense of what Burlington (Vermont) is like. I'd love to know where locals tell their friends to stay when they visit, and why those areas and hotels are special. thanks!

Stay in the old north end of Burlington. There are a couple of inns on South Willard Street. Basically anything within walking distance to Church Street is great!

Stay at the Willard Street Inn, a beautiful bed and breakfast near Champlain College, Hotel Vermont by the Waterfront, or the brand new Homewood Suites by Hilton Burlington on Dorset St. No other options need be considered :)
