Budget Hotels

Two girlfriends and I are taking a semester off school to backpack our way through Europe--we want to start off with a week in Paris and since we’re obviously on a very, very tight budget, we need to find a very, very cheap hotel. If you have ideas for other things that would be great, too. We’re thinking we’ll try to get food from markets and that kind of thing but if you know of any cheap restaurants, we’d love that too. Would love your suggestions and thanks so much for the tips! We can’t wait!!!

When I’m in Paris I always stay at the  Hôtel Chopin in the Passage Jouffroy. They have rooms for three people that run about $60 a night. It’s a great little hotel with a lot of character and a great staff in the Montmartre district. Right around the corner is the  Le Bouillon Chartier which serves very decent but not incredible food for a very, very low price. It’s a really, really fun place that started to accommodate low-earning wage workers and has always kept the prices low. It’s been open for over 100 years so obviously there’s a good reason for it!

Awesome that you’re doing this! Some friends and I did the same thing but in the summer! You’re going to have so much fun!!! We stayed at Oops! Hostel in the Latin Quarter and it was great. We payed something like $30 a piece. The place is great—very clean and very well located. The only thing was that they couldn’t get us all in the same room so we had to be split up—it’s kind of like a hostel, not really a hotel. Really good, though. They have a free breakfast, too which is really good.

You might also look into these hotels, too--I haven't used them in a while, but they're all good and relatively cheap:

HOTEL LE REGENT

The Modern Hotel

I think it would be good for you to stay at the Port Royal Hotel in Paris. It is very safe and proper. My nephew and his wife always stay there when he come to visit in Paris. Our flat is too small for them! He likes it very much. I think he pays for them perhaps 80 euro.
