Hi Georgia,

Budapest is an amazing city, really under-rated and I think actually one of the better places to visit during winter.

One winter highlight for me was to go to the baths - the Széchenyi Gyógyfürdő és Uszoda has an amazing heated outdoor pool that is very magical on cold, foggy days. You'll have to brace a frosty mad dash from the main building, but it's worth it. If you want something more intimate then Szt. Lukács Gyógyfürdő és Uszoda is one where the locals go.

By christmas they should also have set up the open ice skating rink at City Park - that's fun, right by a castle and it's a great way to spend few hours. If you go by metro, stop off at Heroes' Square

There are a lot of beautiful sights along the Danube - and walking anywhere along the river, and surrounds is spectacular: ParlamentSzéchenyi Chain BridgeBuda CastleBasilicaare some of the classic Budapest structures.

If you happen to be there on a Sunday, the morning produce markets at Szimpla Kert are a great insight into Budapest life - even though it attracts a younger crowd at night, during the day a mix of young, old and everything in between seem happy to mingle together.

Budapest is a nice place to visit especially at the Christmas time. I'd definitely visit the Christmas market at the Vörösmarty térVthat's on the Váci St This street is famous for shopping. I'd recommend to visit the Halászbástya, the Buda Castle, hike the Citadella(Gellért hill),  walk along the Andrássy út and  Heroes' Square and iceskate at Vajdahunyad vár It's worth to take the "christmas" tram that runs along the bank of river Danube.
